La pandemia continúa, pero eso no impidió que MTV organizara los Video Music Awards 2020. Los premios finalmente sucedieron: en vivo, virtualmente, en toda la ciudad de Nueva York. Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande y BTS lideraron la noche, llevándose a casa cuatro Moonpeople cada uno después de que Gaga y Grande alcanzaran nueve nominaciones.

Gaga también se llevó a casa el primer premio MTV Tricon Award, mientras que The Weeknd ganó el video del año por “Blinding Lights”.
